Chapter: Greed and Its Related Matters – Clarifying that Having Two Valleys of Wealth Increases the Desire for More
Hadith 3236
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفِيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الأَحُوَلُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبِي ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَوْ كَانَ لابْنِ آدَمَ وَادِيَانِ مِنْ مَالٍ ، لابْتَغَى وَادِيًا ثَالِثًا ، وَلا يَمْلأُ جَوْفَ ابْنِ آدَمَ إِلا التُّرَابُ ، ثُمَّ يَتُوبُ اللَّهُ عَلَى مَنْ تَابَ " .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "If a man possesses two valleys of wealth, he will desire a third. Nothing fills the belly of man except dust, and whoever repents, Allah accepts his repentance."
