Chapter: Greed and Its Related Matters – Clarifying that Whoever is Given a Valley of Gold Will Act Like Those Previously Described
Hadith 3235
أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " لَوْ أَنَّ لابْنِ آدَمَ وَادِيًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يَكُونَ لَهُ وَادٍ آخَرُ ، وَلا يَمْلأُ فَاهَ إِلا التُّرَابُ ، وَاللَّهُ يَتُوبُ عَلَى مَنْ تَابَ " .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "If a man possesses a valley of gold, he will wish that he had another valley as well. Nothing can fill his mouth except dust, and whoever repents, Allah Almighty accepts his repentance."
