Chapter: Greed and Its Related Matters – Clarifying that All Children of Adam, Except Those Whom Allah Protects, Treat All Wealth Like Palm Trees
Hadith 3234
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " لَوْ أَنَّ لابْنِ آدَمَ وَادِيًا مَالا ، لأُحِبَّ أَنَّ لَهُ مِثْلَهُ ، وَلا يَمْلأُ نَفْسَ ابْنِ آدَمَ إِلا التُّرَابُ ، وَيَتُوبُ اللَّهُ عَلَى مَنْ تَابَ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "If a man possesses a valley of wealth, he will wish that he had another like it. Nothing fills the belly of man except dust, and Allah accepts the repentance of whoever repents."
