Chapter: Greed and Its Related Matters – On How Allah Created the Children of Adam with Greed for This Perishable World
Hadith 3231
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَطَاءً ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " لَوْ أَنَّ لابْنِ آدَمَ مِلْءَ وَادٍ مَالا ، لأَحَبَّ أَنْ يَكُونَ لَهُ مِثْلُهُ ، وَلا يَمْلأُ نَفْسَ ابْنِ آدَمَ إِلا التُّرَابُ ، وَاللَّهُ يَتُوبُ عَلَى مِنْ تَابَ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) say: "If a man were to possess a valley full of wealth, he would wish to have another like it. Nothing fills the belly of man except dust, and whoever repents, Allah accepts his repentance."
