Chapter: Greed and Its Related Matters – Clarifying that the Older One Gets, the Greater Their Greed for the World, Except Those Whom Allah Protects
Hadith 3229
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا خَلَفُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ الْبَزَّارُ ، وَسَعِيدُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ حِسَابٍ ، وَعَبْدُ الُوَاحِدِ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " يَهْرَمُ ابْنُ آدَمَ ، وَتَشِبُّ فِيهِ اثْنَتَانِ : الْحِرْصُ عَلَى الْمَالِ ، وَالْحِرْصُ عَلَى الْعُمُرِ " .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "A man grows old, but two things in him always remain young: greed for wealth and desire for a long life."
