Sayyiduna Jabir bin Atik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to visit Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) when he was ill, and found him in a state where he was unconscious. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called out to him in a loud voice, but he did not respond. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited «انا لله و انا الیه راجعون» and said: "O Abu Rabi', your matter is beyond our control." At this, the women began to weep loudly. Sayyiduna Jabir bin Atik (may Allah be pleased with him) tried to silence them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let them weep. When it becomes obligatory, then no one should weep." The people asked: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), what is meant by 'when it becomes obligatory'?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When he passes away." His daughter said: "By Allah, I hope that he will be a martyr, because he had completed his preparations." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah, the Exalted, will grant him reward according to his intention. Whom do you count as a martyr?" The people replied: "One who is killed in the way of Allah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There are seven other kinds besides this: one who dies of a stomach illness is a martyr, one who drowns is a martyr, one who dies of pneumonia is a martyr, one who dies of plague is a martyr, one who dies by burning is a martyr, one who dies under debris is a martyr, and a woman who dies during childbirth is a martyr."
