Ibn Hibban

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out from Madinah Munawwarah towards the polytheists in order to fight them. My father, Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), said to me: O Jabir! There will be no blame upon you if you remain among those who stay behind in Madinah, until you find out what happens to us. By Allah! If I were not leaving behind daughters after me, I would have liked that you be martyred before me. (Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says): So I stayed in Madinah Munawwarah. Meanwhile, my paternal aunt’s son brought the bodies of my father and my maternal uncle, carrying them on a camel. He brought them to Madinah Munawwarah so that he could bury both of them in our graveyard. At that moment, a man announced: Beware! Indeed, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is commanding you to take the slain back and bury them in the field at the very place where they were martyred. The narrator says: So we laid both of them down with the slain at the very place where they were martyred. (Imam Ibn Hibban (may Allah have mercy on him) says:): The words of the narration, “we brought both of them back,” mean that we buried them there.
