Hadith 3176
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الأَزْدِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ، يَقُولُ : حَدَّثَنِي الزُّهْرِيُّ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ رِضْوَانُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ ، يَقُولُ : لَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أُبَيٍّ ، أَتَى ابْنُهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أُبَيِّ بْنِ سَلُولٍ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، هَذَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أُبَيٍّ قَدْ وَضَعْنَاهُ ، فَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ ، فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَلَمَّا قَامَ يُصَلِّي عَلَيْهِ ، قُمْتُ فِي صَدْرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ، أَتُصَلِّي عَلَى عَدُوِّ اللَّهِ الْقَائِلِ يَوْمَ كَذَا كَذَا وَكَذَا ، وَالْقَائِلِ يَوْمَ كَذَا كَذَا وَكَذَا ، أُعَدِّدُ أَيَّامَهُ الْخَبِيثَةَ ؟ فَتَبَسَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ : " عَنِّي يَا عُمَرُ " ، حَتَّى إِذَا أَكْثَرْتُ قَالَ : " عَنِّي يَا عُمَرُ ، فَإِنِّي قَدْ خُيِّرْتُ ، فَاخْتَرْتُ ، إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَقُولُ : اسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ أَوْ لا تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ سورة التوبة آية 80 وَلَوْ أَعْلَمُ أَنِّي زِدْتُ عَلَى السَّبْعِينَ غُفِرَ لَهُ ، لَزِدْتُ " قَالَ عُمَرُ : فَعَجَبًا لِجُرْأَتِي عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَاللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ ، فَلَمَّا قَالَ لِي ذَلِكَ ، انْصَرَفْتُ عَنْهُ ، فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ ، ثُمَّ مَشَى مَعَهُ ، فَقَامَ عَلَى حُفْرَتِهِ حَتَّى دُفِنَ ، ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ ، فَوَاللَّهِ مَا لَبِثَ إِلا يَسِيرًا حَتَّى أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ جَلَّ وَعَلا : وَلا تُصَلِّ عَلَى أَحَدٍ مِنْهُمْ مَاتَ أَبَدًا ، وَلا تَقُمْ عَلَى قَبْرِهِ سورة التوبة آية 84 فَمَا صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى مُنَافِقٍ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ ، وَلا قَامَ عَلَى قَبْرِهِ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I heard Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) saying: When Abdullah bin Ubayy passed away, his son Abdullah came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! This is Abdullah bin Ubayy, whom we have placed (on the bier), please perform his funeral prayer. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up. When you (peace and blessings be upon him) stood to perform his funeral prayer, I came and stood in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Will you perform the funeral prayer of the enemy of Allah who said such and such on such and such a day, and said such and such on such and such a day? I mentioned to you several of his wicked days. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Leave me, O Umar! When I insisted more, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Leave me, O Umar, for I have been given a choice and I have chosen (what I prefer). Allah the Exalted has said: "Whether you ask forgiveness for them or do not ask forgiveness for them..." (The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said) If I knew that if I sought forgiveness for him more than seventy times, he would be forgiven, I would do so more than that. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Now I am amazed at my boldness before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). In any case, Allah and His Messenger knew best. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this to me, I moved away from him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed his funeral prayer, accompanied his funeral, and stood by his grave until he was buried, then returned. By Allah! Shortly after that, Allah the Exalted revealed this verse: "And never pray [the funeral prayer] over any of them who dies, nor stand at his grave." After that, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) never performed the funeral prayer of any hypocrite, nor did he stand by the grave of any hypocrite.
