Section on visiting graves – A narration used by some to claim Muslims may visit the graves of polytheists
Hadith 3174
أَخْبَرَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ مُجَاشِعٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ خَلادٍ الْبَاهِلِيُّ ، وَعُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالا : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : " أَتَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَبْرَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أُبَيِّ ابْنِ سَلُولٍ ، بَعْدَمَا أُدْخِلَ حُفْرَتَهُ فَأَمَرَ بِهِ فَأُخْرِجَ ، فَوَضَعَهُ عَلَى رُكْبَتِهِ ، وَنَفَثَ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ رِيقِهِ ، وَأَلْبَسَهُ قَمِيصَهُ " وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) came to the grave of Abdullah bin Ubayy after he had been placed in his grave. By the order of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he was taken out. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) placed him on his knee, put his blessed saliva on him, and clothed him with his own shirt. Allah knows best about the rest.
