Section on the state of the dead in the grave – Description of some punishment the disbeliever faces in the grave
Hadith 3121
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ دَرَّاجًا أَبَا السَّمْحِ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْهَيْثَمِ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيَّ ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يُسَلَّطُ عَلَى الْكَافِرِ فِي قَبْرِهِ تِسْعَةٌ وَتِسْعُونَ تِنِّينًا تَنْهَشُهُ وَتَلْدَغُهُ ، حَتَّى تَقُومَ السَّاعَةُ ، فَلَوْ أَنَّ تِنِّينًا مِنْهَا نَفَخَتْ فِي الأَرْضِ مَا أَنْبَتَتْ خَضِرًا " .
Sayyiduna Abu Sa‘id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Ninety-nine serpents are set upon the disbeliever in his grave, which tear him apart and bite him, and this continues until the Day of Resurrection. If even one of those serpents were to blow upon the earth, the earth would never produce vegetation.”
