Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): When a servant is placed in the grave and his companions leave him, he even hears the sound of their shoes. Then two angels come to him, they make him sit up and say: What do you say about this man? That is, they ask about Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). If he is a believer, he says: I bear witness that he is the servant of Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). Then it is said to him: Look at your place in Hell—Allah Almighty has granted you a place in Paradise instead of it. Qatadah, the narrator, mentioned this: It was mentioned before us that the grave of this person is expanded for him up to seventy cubits and it is filled with greenery for him until the Day of Resurrection. After this, Qatadah returned to the hadith of Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), in which are these words (the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said): "As for the disbeliever and the hypocrite, it is said to him: What do you say about this man? He replies: I do not know, I used to say what the people said. Then it is said to him: Neither did you acquire knowledge nor did you recite (the Qur'an). Then a hammer made of iron is struck between his ears, as a result of which he screams—a scream which everything on earth hears except humans and jinn."
