Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When one of you (the narrator is unsure, perhaps these are the words) when a person is buried in the grave, two angels with black and blue eyes come to him. One of them is called Munkar and the other is called Nakir. They both say to him: 'What did you use to say about this man, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)?' He replies with what he used to say (in the world). If he is a believer, he says: 'He is the servant of Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and indeed Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and His Messenger.' Then both angels say to him: 'We knew you would say this.' Then they expand his grave for him seventy by seventy cubits and illuminate it for him, and it is said to him: 'Sleep.' So he sleeps as a bride sleeps, whom only the most beloved of people to her (i.e., her husband) awakens, until Allah raises him from that bed (on the Day of Resurrection). And if he is a hypocrite, he says: 'I do not know, I used to hear people saying something, so I said the same.' The angels say to him: 'We knew you would say this.' Then it is said to the earth: 'Squeeze him.' So it squeezes him until his ribs interlock, and he will continue to be punished until Allah raises him from his grave." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:): A’mash narrated from Minhal bin Amr, from Zadhan, from Sayyiduna Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) the narration which A’mash also narrated from Hasan, from ‘Amarah, from Minhal bin Amr and Zadhan, but he did not hear this narration from Sayyiduna Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him). Therefore, I did not narrate this narration.
