Section on burial – Instruction to mention Allah’s name when lowering the deceased
Hadith 3110
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنْ أَبِي الصِّدِّيقِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " إِذَا وَضَعْتُمْ مَوْتَاكُمْ فِي اللَّحْدِ ، فَقُولُوا : بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَعَلَى سُنَّةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ " ، قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : أَبُو الصِّدِّيقِ بَكْرُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates this statement of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him): "When you place your dead in the grave, then recite this: 'In the name of Allah, with blessings, and according to the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (we bury him).'” (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:): The narrator named Abu Sadiq is Bakr bin Qais.
