Section on burial – Recommendation for the funeral escort not to sit until the deceased is placed in the grave
Hadith 3106
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا كَانَ مَعَ الْجَنَازَةِ لَمْ يَجْلِسْ حَتَّى تُوضَعَ فِي اللَّحْدِ ، أَوْ حَتَّى تُدْفَنَ " ، شَكَّ أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would go with a funeral, he would not sit down until it was placed in the grave (the narrator is in doubt, perhaps the words are) until it was buried.
