Section on the funeral prayer – Clarifying that the Prophet announced Najashi’s death on the day he died
Hadith 3101
أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ ، وأبي سلمة ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، نَعَى النَّجَاشِيَّ يَوْمَ تُوُفِّيَ ، وَقَالَ : " اسْتَغْفِرُوا لأَخِيكُمْ " ، ثُمَّ خَرَجَ بِالنَّاسِ إِلَى الْمُصَلَّى ، فَصَفُّوا وَرَاءَهُ ، وَكَبَّرَ أَرْبَعَ تَكْبِيرَاتٍ .
Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) informed about the death of Najashi on the very day he passed away. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Pray for forgiveness for your brother. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) took the people to the Eid ground, formed rows behind him, and said four takbirs.
Hadith 3102
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلْمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الأَوْزَاعِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو قِلابَةَ ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ ، قَالَ : " أَنْبَأَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّ أَخَاكُمْ النَّجَاشِيَّ تُوُفِّيَ ، فَقُومُوا فَصَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ ، فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَصَفُّوا خَلْفَهُ ، وَكَبَّرَ أَرْبَعًا وَهُمْ لا يَظُنُّونَ إِلا أَنَّ جَنَازَتَهُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ " .
Sayyiduna Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) informed us, "Your brother Najashi has passed away. Stand up and offer his funeral prayer." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up, arranged rows behind him, and said four takbirs. People thought as if his body was present in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
