Section on the funeral prayer – Permissibility for people to line up behind the imam when praying at the grave
Hadith 3092
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدِ بْنِ أَبِي عَوْنٍ الرَّيَّانِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ حَكِيمِ بْنِ عَبَّادِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ ، عَنْ خَارِجَةَ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ ، وَكَانَ أَكْبَرَ مِنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ ، وَكَانَ قَدْ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا ، وَزَيْدٌ لَمْ يَشْهَدْ بَدْرًا ، قَالَ : خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى الْبَقِيعِ ، " فَرَأَى قَبْرًا جَدِيدًا ، فَصَفَفْنَا خَلْفَهُ ، وَكَبَّرَ عَلَيْهِ أَرْبَعًا " .
Sayyiduna Yazid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him), who was older than Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) and had the honor of participating in the Battle of Badr, whereas Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) did not have the honor of participating in the Battle of Badr, (Sayyiduna Yazid bin Thabit, may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We went with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) towards Baqi‘. There, he (peace and blessings be upon him) noticed a new grave. We formed rows behind him (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said takbeer four times (while performing the funeral prayer for the deceased).
