Section on the funeral prayer – Permissibility of praying at the grave even after a night has passed
Hadith 3091
أَخْبَرَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ مُجَاشِعٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنِ الشَّيْبَانِيِّ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : " صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى قَبْرِ رَجُلٍ بَعْدَمَا دُفِنَ بِلَيْلَةٍ ، قَامَ هُوَ وَأَصْحَابُهُ ، وَكَانَ قَدْ سَأَلَ عَنْهُ ، قَالُوا : فُلانٌ دُفِنَ الْبَارِحَةَ ، فَصَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ " .
Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) offered the funeral prayer at the grave of a person who had been buried at night. The Prophet (peace be upon him) and his companions stood up. The Prophet (peace be upon him) inquired about this person, so the people informed him: "So-and-so was buried last night," so they offered the funeral prayer (at his grave).
