Section on standing for the funeral
Hadith 3050
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلْمٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الأَوْزَاعِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مِقْسَمٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي جَابِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، إِذْ مَرَّتْ بِنَا جَنَازَةٌ ، فَقَامَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَلَمَّا ذَهَبْنَا لِنَحْمِلَ ، إِذَا هِيَ جَنَازَةُ يَهُودِيٍّ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّ لِلْمَوْتِ فَزَعًا ، فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ جَنَازَةً فَقُومُوا " .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Once we were with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) when a funeral passed by us. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) stood up for it. When we moved forward to carry it on our shoulders, it turned out to be the funeral of a Jew. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: There is a specific dread associated with death. Whenever you see a funeral, stand up.
