Section on carrying the bier and its statements – Recommendation for people to walk briskly with the bier
Hadith 3043
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ عُيَيْنَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : شَهِدْتُ جَنَازَةَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، وَخَرَجَ زِيَادٌ يَمْشِي بَيْنَ يَدَيْ سَرِيرِهِ ، وَرِجَالٌ يُسْتَقْبَلُونَ السَّرِيرَ ، وَيُدَاسُونَ عَلَى أَعْقَابِهِمْ يَقُولُونَ : رُوَيْدًا رُوَيْدًا بَارِكَ اللَّهُ فِيكُمْ ، حَتَّى إِذَا كُنَّا فِي بَعْضِ الْمِرْبَدِ ، لَحِقَنَا أَبُو بَكْرَةَ عَلَى بَغْلَةٍ ، فَلَمَّا رَأَى أُولَئِكَ وَمَا يَصْنَعُونَ ، حَمَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ بِبَغْلَتِهِ ، وَأَهْوَى إِلَيْهِمْ بِسَوْطِهِ ، وَقَالَ : " خَلُّوا فَوَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ ، لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَإِنَّا نَكَادُ أَنْ نَرْمُلَ بِهَا رَمَلا " ، قَالَ : فَجَاءَ الْقَوْمُ ، وَأَسْرَعُوا الْمَشْيَ ، وَأَسْرَعَ زِيَادٌ الْمَشْيَ .
Uyainah bin Abdur Rahman narrates: I participated in the funeral of Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him). (At that time, the governor) Ziyad was walking in front of the bier, and some people had turned their faces towards the bier and were walking backwards, saying, "Move aside, move aside, may Allah bless you." When we reached a certain place on the way, we met Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who was riding his mule. When he saw the behavior of these people, he turned his mule towards them and, pointing at them with his whip, said, "Make way! By the One in Whose hand is my soul, I remember about myself that when we were with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), we would almost run (walk quickly)." The narrator says: So the people came and started walking quickly, and Ziyad also started walking quickly.
