Section on death and related matters: comfort of the believer, glad tidings, soul, deeds, and praise – Mention that the Muslim finds rest at death, and the disbeliever brings relief to others
Hadith 3012
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ الأَنْصَارِيُّ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ حَلْحَلَةَ ، عَنْ مَعْبَدِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ بْنِ رِبْعِيٍّ ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُحَدِّثُ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، مُرَّ عَلَيْهِ بِجِنَازَةٍ فَقَالَ : " مُسْتَرِيحٌ وَمُسْتَرَاحٌ مِنْهُ " فَقَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، مَنِ الْمُسْتَرِيحُ وَالْمُسْتَرَاحُ مِنْهُ ؟ فَقَالَ : " الْعَبْدُ الْمُؤْمِنُ يَسْتَرِيحُ مِنْ نَصَبِ الدُّنْيَا وَأَذَاهَا إِلَى رَحْمَةِ اللَّهِ ، وَالْمُسْتَرَاحُ مِنْهُ الْعَبْدُ الْفَاجِرُ يَسْتَرِيحُ مِنْهُ الْعِبَادُ وَالْبِلادُ وَالشَّجَرُ وَالدَّوَابُّ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah bin Rabi’i (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A funeral passed by the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so he said: “This one is either one who has attained relief or one from whom relief has been attained.” The people asked: “Who is the one who has attained relief and who is the one from whom relief has been attained?” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The believing servant attains relief from the troubles and hardships of the world and proceeds towards the mercy of Allah Almighty. And the one from whom relief is attained is the disbelieving servant, from whom people, cities, trees, and animals attain relief.”
