Hadith 2999
Qais bin Abu Hazim narrates: We went to visit Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him) when he was ill. He had seven marks of branding on his stomach. He said, "If the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had not forbidden us from praying for death, I would have prayed for it." Then he mentioned his companions who had departed (from this world), saying, "These people have gone and did not receive any worldly benefit from their reward, and after them, we remained and acquired the world. None of us knows what to do with it except to spend it on earth (i.e., on construction), and a Muslim is rewarded for everything he spends except for what he spends on earth (i.e., on construction)."
