Hadith 2969
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyidah Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her) made a supplication: O Allah! Grant me blessings regarding my husband, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), my father Sayyiduna Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him), and my brother Mu’awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) (i.e., grant them long life). So the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You have asked Allah regarding a matter whose time is fixed, whose signs will be reached, and whose sustenance has already been distributed. None of these things can be given before their appointed time. If you had asked Allah to save you from the punishment of Hell or the punishment of the grave, that would have been better (the narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words), that would have been superior.
