The Sick and Related Matters - What to say for relief from pain
Hadith 2965
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ خُصَيْفَةَ ، أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ السُّلَمِيَّ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّ نَافِعَ بْنَ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ أَخْبَرَهُ ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ ، أَنَّهُ أَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ عُثْمَانُ : وَبِي وَجَعٌ قَدْ كَادَ يُهْلِكُنِي ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " امْسَحْ بِيَمِينِكَ سَبْعَ مَرَّاتٍ ، وَقُلْ : أَعُوذُ بِعِزَّةِ اللَّهِ وَقُدْرَتِهِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا أَجِدُ " ، قَالَ : فَقُلْتُ ذَلِكَ ، فَأَذْهَبَ اللَّهُ مَا كَانَ بِي فَلَمْ أَزَلْ آمُرُ بِهِ أَهْلِي وَغَيْرَهُمْ .
Sayyiduna Uthman bin Abu al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: He presented himself before the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was afflicted with such pain that it was leading me to destruction, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to him: Place your right hand on the affected area and pass it over it seven times, and recite this: "I seek refuge in the honor and power of Allah from the evil of what I am experiencing and what I fear." Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I recited it, and Allah Almighty removed my pain. After that, I always advised my family and others to do the same.
