The Sick and Related Matters - Refutation of the claim that the sick must not pray for recovery
Hadith 2962
أَخْبَرَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ مُجَاشِعٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ الْكِنْدِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَالِكٍ النُّكْرِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْجَوْزَاءِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : كُنْتُ أُعَوِّذُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِدُعَاءِ كَانَ جِبْرِيلُ يُعَوِّذُهُ بِهِ إِذَا مَرِضَ : " أَذْهِبِ الْبَأْسَ رَبَّ النَّاسِ ، تَنْزِلُ الشِّفَاءَ لا شَافِيَ إِلا أَنْتَ ، اشْفِ شِفَاءً لا يُغَادِرُ سَقَمًا " ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ فِي مَرَضِهِ الَّذِي تُوُفِّيَ فِيهِ ، جَعَلْتُ أَدْعُو بِهَذَا الدُّعَاءِ ، فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " ارْفَعِي يَدَكِ فَإِنَّهَا كَانَتْ تَنْفَعُنِي فِي الْمُدَّةِ " .
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I used to recite the same supplication to seek cure for the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that Angel Jibreel (peace be upon him) used to recite over the Prophet (peace be upon him) when he was ill (it is this): "Remove the affliction, O Lord of the people, grant cure, there is no cure except Your cure, grant such a cure that leaves no illness behind." Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was afflicted with the illness in which he passed away, I began to recite this supplication over him, so the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: Remove your hand, for this has benefited me for a long time.
