The Sick and Related Matters - Permissibility of visiting non-Muslim sick if hoping for their conversion
Hadith 2960
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الصَّلْتُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ الْجَحْدَرِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنِ أَنَسٍ ، أَنَّ غُلامًا يَهُودِيًّا كَانَ يَخْدُمُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَمَرِضَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لأَصْحَابِهِ : " اذْهَبُوا بِنَا إِلَيْهِ نَعُودُهُ " ، فَأَتَوْهُ وَأَبُوهُ قَاعِدٌ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " قُلْ : لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ أَشْفَعُ لَكَ بِهَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ " ، فَجَعَلَ الْغُلامُ يَنْظُرُ إِلَى أَبِيهِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُوهُ : انْظُرْ مَا يَقُولُ لَكَ أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ ، فَقَالَ : أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الْحَمْدُ للَّهِ الَّذِي أَنْقَذَهُ مِنْ نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ " .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A Jewish boy used to serve the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He fell ill. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said to his companions: "Let us go to visit him." They went to him and his father was sitting at his head. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said to him: "Say that there is no deity except Allah. I will intercede for you on the Day of Resurrection because of this." The boy began to look towards his father, so his father said to him: "Consider what Abu al-Qasim (peace be upon him) is telling you (i.e., obey him)." So the boy said: "I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah." The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) then said: "All praise is due to Allah, who has saved him from the fire of Hell."
