Patience and Reward for Illness and Afflictions - Clarification that plague is a remnant of the punishment sent to the Israelites
Hadith 2954
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الزَّهْرَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ ، عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ ، عَنْ أَسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، ذَكَرَ الطَّاعُونَ فَقَالَ : " بَقِيَّةُ رِجْزٍ ، وَعَذَابٌ أُرْسِلَ عَلَى طَائِفَةٍ مِنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ ، فَإِذَا وَقَعَ بِأَرْضٍ ، وَأَنْتُمْ بِهَا فَلا تَهْرَبُوا مِنْهُ ، وَإِذَا كَانَ بِأَرْضٍ فَلا تَهْبِطُوا عَلَيْهِ " .
Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the plague and said: "It is a remnant of punishment. It is the punishment that was sent upon a group from the Children of Israel. When it occurs in a land and you are present there, do not flee from it, and when it occurs in another land, do not go there."
