Patience and Reward for Illness and Afflictions - Allah purifies the Muslim from sins through fever in this world
Hadith 2935
أَخْبَرَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : أَتَتِ الْحُمَّى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَاسْتَأْذَنَتْ عَلَيْهِ ، فَقَالَ : " مَنْ أَنْتِ ؟ " فَقَالَتْ : أَنَا أُمُّ مِلْدَمٍ ، قَالَ : " انْهَدِي إِلَى قُبَاءَ ، فَأْتِهِمْ " قَالَ : فَأَتَتْهُمْ ، فَحُمُّوا ، أَوْ لَقُوا مِنْهَا شِدَّةً ، فَقَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، مَا تَرَى مَا لَقِينَا مِنَ الْحُمَّى ، قَالَ : " إِنْ شِئْتُمْ دَعَوْتُ اللَّهَ ، فَكَشَفَهَا عَنْكُمْ ، وَإِنْ شِئْتُمْ كَانَتْ طَهُورًا " ، قَالُوا : بَلْ تَكُونُ طَهُورًا .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Fever came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). It sought permission to present itself before him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Who are you? It replied: I am Umm Miladim (Mother of Heat). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Go towards Quba and stay there. The narrator says: It went there and the people began to suffer from fever (the narrator is unsure, perhaps these are the words) and they faced great hardship because of it. They said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Have you noticed how much fever we are suffering from? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you wish, I will pray to Allah Almighty and He will remove it from you, and if you wish, it will become a means of purification for you. So they said: Let it remain as a means of purification for us.
