It is narrated about Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) that once he stood up to deliver a sermon, and during his sermon, he narrated a hadith from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyiduna Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) stated: Once, I and a boy from the Ansar were practicing archery during the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Meanwhile, the sun rose, and to the observer, it appeared to be the length of a spear or two spears, the rest was dark. One of us said to his companion: Let us go to the mosque of Allah’s Messenger. By Allah! This state of the sun must be bringing a new command for the Ummah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). We went to the mosque, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had just come out of his house. He (peace and blessings be upon him) stood and began to pray. He (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in prayer, and of all the prayers he led us in, this was the longest. We did not hear his voice. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and performed the second rak‘ah in the same manner. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) sat down, the eclipse ended while he was still sitting. He (peace and blessings be upon him) completed the prayer with salam, then praised and glorified Allah, and testified that there is no deity except Allah and that he (peace and blessings be upon him) is Allah’s servant and Messenger. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O people! I am a human being who has been sent as a Messenger. I ask you by Allah, if you know that I have been negligent in conveying the message of my Lord, then inform me about it. The people replied: We bear witness that you (peace and blessings be upon him) have conveyed the message of your Lord and have shown goodwill to your Ummah, and you (peace and blessings be upon him) have fulfilled what was entrusted to you. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Some people think that the eclipse of the sun or the moon, or the falling of stars from their rising place, happens due to the death of some great person from the people of the earth. These people are mistaken; rather, these are signs of Allah, through which Allah admonishes His servants so that they may turn to repentance. By Allah! Whatever situation you have to face in your worldly and religious matters, I have just seen it while standing here in prayer. By Allah! The Hour will not be established until the appearance of great liars among you, one of whom will be the one-eyed Dajjal. His left eye will not be there; it will be like the eye of Abu Tuhayya. He was an old man from the Ansar, and there was a wooden stick between him and the chamber of Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). Whenever Dajjal appears, he will claim that he is Allah, and whoever affirms and follows him, none of his previous good deeds will benefit him. Soon, Dajjal will dominate the entire earth except for the sacred precincts and Bayt al-Maqdis; he will not be able to conquer them. He will force the Muslims to go towards Bayt al-Maqdis, and they will be under severe siege. The narrator named Aswad states: I think these words are also in the narration, that during this time, Sayyiduna Isa bin Maryam (peace be upon him) will descend among them, and Allah will defeat Dajjal and his armies, until even the foundation of the wall and the trunk of the tree will call out: O believer! This disbeliever is hiding behind me, come forward and kill him. And this will not happen until you see great events that will disturb you. You will ask each other: Did your Prophet mention this to you? It will be such a trial that even mountains will move from their places. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then after that, there will be a seizure. Then he joined the tips of his fingers together. Then he said this a second time: What the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had said, I have seen it. Then he mentioned the same thing and did not change a single word from its place, neither before nor after.
