Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: During the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), there was a solar eclipse. The Prophet (peace be upon him) stood up in a state of anxiety, then he (peace be upon him) said: "These are signs which Allah sends. They do not appear because of anyone's death or life, rather Allah sends them to instill fear in His servants. When you see any of these things, turn towards the remembrance of Allah and seek forgiveness from Him." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The statement of the Prophet (peace be upon him) that "turn towards His remembrance" means the prayer of eclipse (Salat al-Kusuf), because the word "remembrance" (dhikr) is used for prayer, or because there is remembrance of Allah in it. Therefore, the word "remembrance" is used for prayer.
