Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates: In the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), there was a solar eclipse. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed prayer. He (peace and blessings be upon him) stood for a long time, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) bowed (in ruku‘), then he (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his head, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood again, but this standing was shorter than the first one, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) went into ruku‘ again, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his head, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood again, but this standing was shorter than the previous one, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) went into ruku‘, so these became three ruku‘, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) went into prostration, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his head, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ruku‘ three times, and the standing between them was shorter than the previous standing, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) went into prostration, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) completed the prayer, and during this time the sun had become bright again. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Indeed, the sun and the moon do not eclipse because of anyone’s death or life; these two are among the signs of Allah. When you see them in the state of eclipse, then perform prayer until the eclipse is over.”
