Eclipse Prayer - Clarification that one may recite a different surah in the second unit
Hadith 2841
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حِبَّانُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : انْكَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى الصَّلاةِ ، فَقَرَأَ بِسُورَةِ طَوِيلَةٍ ، ثُمَّ رَكَعَ نَحْوًا مِنْ قِيَامِهِ ، ثُمَّ رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ ، فَافْتَتَحَ بِسُورَةٍ أُخْرَى ، حَتَّى إِذَا فَرَغَ مِنْهَا رَكَعَ ثَانِيَةً ، ثُمَّ رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ وَسَجَدَ ، ثُمَّ قَامَ إِلَى الرَّكْعَةِ الثَّانِيَةِ ، فَقَرَأَ أَيْضًا بِسُورَةٍ ، وَقَامَ دُونَ الْقِرَاءَةِ الأُولَى ، ثُمَّ رَكَعَ فَكَانَ رُكُوعُهُ دُونَ الأَوْلِ ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ فَلَمَّا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنَ السُّجُودِ ، قَالَ : " مَا مِنْ شَيْءٍ تُوعَدُونَهُ إِلا وَقَدْ رَأَيْتُهُ فِي مَقَامِي هَذَا ، وَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنِي أُرِيدُ أَنْ آخُذَ قِطْفًا مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ حِينَ رَأَيْتُمُونِي أَتَقَدَّمُ ، وَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ جَهَنَّمَ يَحْطِمُ بَعْضُهَا بَعْضًا حِينَ رَأَيْتُمُونِي تَأَخَّرْتُ ، وَرَأَيْتُ عَمْرَو بْنَ لُحَيٍّ وَهُوَ الَّذِي سَيَّبَ السَّوَائِبَ " .
Lady Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: During the sacred time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), there was a solar eclipse. The Prophet (peace be upon him) stood up to perform prayer. He recited a long surah, then he bowed (ruku) for as long as he had stood. Then he raised his head and began reciting another surah. When he finished reciting it, he bowed again for the second time. He then raised his head and went into prostration (sajdah). Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) stood up for the second rak'ah. In this, too, he recited a surah, but it was somewhat shorter than the first recitation. Then he bowed, but this bowing was shorter than the previous one. Then he went into prostration. When he raised his head from prostration, he said: "Whatever you have been promised, I have seen it while standing in this place. And I wished to take a bunch from Paradise—this happened when you saw me move forward. And I also saw Hell, parts of it consuming other parts—this happened when you saw me retreat. I saw in Hell Amr bin Luhayy, the one who started the practice of dedicating animals in the name of idols."
