Eid Prayers - Clarification that the Eid prayer should precede the sermon
Hadith 2823
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَابِسٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ، وَقِيلَ لَهُ : أَشَهِدْتَ الْخُرُوجَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ الْعِيدِ ؟ قَالَ : " نَعَمْ ، وَلَوْلا مَكَانِي مِنْهُ مَا شَهِدْتُهُ مَعَهُ مِنَ الصِّغَرِ ، خَرَجَ حَتَّى أَتَى الْعِلْمَ الَّذِي عِنْدَ دَارِ كَثِيرِ بْنِ الصَّلْتِ ، فَصَلَّى ، ثُمَّ خَطَبَ ، ثُمَّ أَتَى النِّسَاءَ وَمَعَهُ بِلالٌ ، فَوَعَظَهُنَّ ، وَذَكَّرَهُنَّ ، وَأَمَرَهُنَّ بِالصَّدَقَةِ ، فَرَأَيْتُهُنَّ يَرْمِيَنَّ بِأَيْدِيهِنَّ ، وَيَقْذِفْنَهُ فِي ثَوْبِ بِلالٍ ، ثُمَّ انْطَلَقَ هُوَ وَبِلالٌ إِلَى بَيْتِهِ " .
Abdur Rahman bin Abis narrates: I heard Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) being asked: Did you participate with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) on the day of Eid? He replied: Yes! If I did not have special closeness to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), due to being young, I would not have been able to participate with him. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) went out until he reached the place near the house of Kathir bin Salt, where he performed the prayer. Then he delivered the sermon, then he went to the women, and with him was Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him). He admonished and advised the women, and he ordered them to give charity. So I saw the women putting their charity with their hands into the cloth of Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him). Then the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) returned towards the house.
