Eid Prayers - Description of what is recited in the Eid prayers
Hadith 2820
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ ضَمْرَةَ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْمَازِنِيِّ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ سَأَلَ أَبَا وَاقِدٍ اللَّيْثِيَّ : مَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقْرَأُ فِي الْفِطْرِ وَالأَضْحَى ؟ قَالَ : " كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَأُ بِ ق وَالْقُرْآنِ الْمَجِيدِ ، و اقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ " .
Ubaidullah bin Abdullah reports: Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) asked Sayyiduna Abu Waqid Al-Laithi (may Allah be pleased with him): Which Surahs did the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) recite on the days of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha? He replied: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite Surah Al-Kahf and Surah «اقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةِ».
