Eid Prayers - Permission for unmarried women, those in seclusion, and menstruating women to attend Muslim festivals
Hadith 2816
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ حَسَّانَ ، عَنْ حَفْصَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ ، قَالَتْ : أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ نُخْرِجَهُنَّ يَوْمَ الْفِطْرِ ، وَيَوْمَ الأَضْحَى ، يَعْنِي : أَبْكَارَ الْعَوَاتِقِ ، وَذَوَاتِ الْخُدُورِ ، وَالْحُيَّضَ ، فَقُلْتُ : أَرَأَيْتَ إِحْدَاهُنَّ لا يَكُونُ لَهَا جِلْبَابٌ ؟ قَالَ : " فَتُلْبِسُهَا أُخْتُهَا مِنْ جِلْبَابِهَا " .
Sayyida Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Messenger of Allah commanded us that on the day of Eid al-Fitr and the day of Eid al-Adha, we should take the women out with us, that is, the young girls as well as the women observing seclusion, and even the menstruating women. (Sayyida Umm Atiyyah, may Allah be pleased with her, narrates) I asked: What do you say if a woman does not have a cloak? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then her sister should let her share her cloak.
