Chapter on Friday Prayer - Mention of the differences among previous nations regarding Friday when it was made obligatory
Hadith 2784
أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي السَّرِيِّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنْ هَمَّامِ بْنِ مُنَبِّهٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " نَحْنُ السَّابِقُونَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ بَيْدَ أَنَّهُمْ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ مِنْ قَبْلِنَا ، وَأُوتِينَاهُ مِنْ بَعْدِهُمْ ، فَهَذَا يَوْمُهُمُ الَّذِي فُرِضَ عَلَيْهِمْ ، فَاخْتَلَفُوا فِيهِ ، فَهَدَانَا اللَّهُ لَهُ ، فَهُمْ لَنَا فِيهِ تَبَعٌ ، الْيَهُودُ غَدًا ، وَالنَّصَارَى بَعْدَ غَدٍ " ، سَمِعْتُ مُوسَى بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ الذُّهْلِيَّ بِأَنْطَاكِيَةَ يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ الْمُزَنِيَّ يَقُولُ : " بَيْدَ " : مِنْ أَجْلِ .
Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "We will be the first on the Day of Resurrection, and the reason for this is that the Book was given to those people before us and it was given to us after them. And this is the day that was made obligatory upon them, but they differed regarding it, so Allah Almighty guided us towards it. Thus, regarding this day, those people are our followers; the day of the Jews is tomorrow (i.e., Saturday) and the day of the Christians is the day after tomorrow (i.e., Sunday)."
