Sayyiduna Aws bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “Whoever performs ghusl on the day of Jumu’ah and performs ghusl well, then goes early and walks (to the mosque), sits near (the Imam), listens attentively to the sermon, remains silent, and does not engage in any idle action, Allah Almighty will grant him for every step the reward of one hundred years of (supererogatory) fasting and prayers.” (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The statement of the Prophet (peace be upon him), “Whoever gives ghusl,” means that he washes his head. And the statement, “Whoever performs ghusl,” means that he washes his body, because people used to have long hair, so they needed to wash it thoroughly. And the statement of the Prophet (peace be upon him), “He goes early and hastens,” means that he hastens for ghusl and goes early for Jumu’ah.
