Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever performs ablution well, then comes for Jumu’ah, listens (to the sermon) and remains silent, his sins from this Jumu’ah to the next Jumu’ah and an additional three days are forgiven. And whoever touches the pebbles has engaged in idle behavior.” (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) Whoever does not have expertise in the science of hadith falls into the misunderstanding that from one Jumu’ah to the next Jumu’ah there are eight days. However, this is not the case, because the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) did not say that from one Jumu’ah to the next Jumu’ah his sins are forgiven. The time for Jumu’ah is after the sun passes its zenith. So, from the time the sun passes its zenith on Jumu’ah to the next Jumu’ah’s zenith is seven days, and the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that there are an additional three days, thus it becomes a total of ten days. Allah the Exalted has said: “Whoever does a good deed, it is multiplied tenfold.” This is the matter. Regarding which we have mentioned in our books that when a person acts in obedience to Allah the Exalted, Allah forgives, because of that, those sins which he does not commit afterwards.
