Chapter on Friday Prayer - Clarification that using the toothstick and wearing one’s best clothes are among the conditions for Friday that expiate sins between two Fridays
Hadith 2778
أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ خُزَيْمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الدَّوْرَقِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ، حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، وأبي أمامة بن سهل بن حنيف ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، وَأَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ، قَالا : سَمِعْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " مَنِ اغْتَسَلَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَاسْتَنَّ ، وَمَسَّ مِنْ طِيبٍ إِنْ كَانَ عِنْدَهُ ، وَلَبِسَ مِنْ أَحْسَنِ ثِيَابِهِ ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ ، وَلَمْ يَتَخَطَّ رِقَابَ النَّاسِ ، ثُمَّ رَكَعَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَرْكَعَ ، ثُمَّ أَنْصَتَ إِذَا خَرَجَ إِمَامُهُ حَتَّى يُصَلِّيَ ، كَانَتْ كَفَّارَةً مَا بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَ الْجُمُعَةِ الَّتِي كَانَتْ قَبْلَهَا " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Abu Sa‘id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate: We heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: “Whoever performs ghusl on Friday, uses the miswak, applies perfume if he has it, wears fine clothes, then goes to the mosque and does not step over people’s necks, then offers as many voluntary prayers as Allah wills, then remains silent when the imam comes until he completes the prayer, then this will be an expiation for the sins committed between this Friday and the previous Friday.”
