Chapter on Prostration of Recitation - Recommendation to prostrate when reciting Surat Sad
Hadith 2765
أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ سَلْمٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي هِلالٍ ، عَنْ عِيَاضِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ، قَالَ : قَرَأَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ص وَهُوَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ ، فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ السَّجْدَةَ نَزَلَ فَسَجَدَ ، وَسَجَدَ النَّاسُ مَعَهُ ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمٌ آخَرُ قَرَأَهَا ، فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ السَّجْدَةَ تَنَشَّزَ النَّاسُ لِلسُّجُودِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّمَا هِيَ تَوْبَةُ نَبِيٍّ ، وَلَكِنِّي رَأَيْتُكُمْ تَنَشَّزْتُمْ لِلسُّجُودِ " ، فَنَزَلَ فَسَجَدَ وَسَجَدُوا .
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) recited Surah Sad while he was on the pulpit. When he reached the place of prostration, he descended from the pulpit. He performed the prostration of recitation, and the people with him also performed the prostration. When the next day came, he recited (again), and when he reached the place of prostration of recitation, the people got ready to prostrate. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This is an incident of a prophet's repentance, but I see you are ready to prostrate. Then he descended from the pulpit, performed the prostration, and the people also performed the prostration.
