Section on Prayer During Travel - Instruction to accept the shortening of prayer during travel as it is Allah’s charity
Hadith 2741
أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ الْجُمَحِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي عَمَّارٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بَابَيْهِ ، عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لِعُمَرَ : إِقْصَارُ النَّاسِ الصَّلاةَ ، وَإِنَّمَا قَالَ اللَّهُ جَلَّ وَعَلا : أَنْ يَفْتِنَكُمُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا سورة النساء آية 101 ، فَقَدْ ذَهَبَ ذَاكَ ، فَقَالَ : عَجِبْتُ مِنْهُ حَتَّى سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " صَدَقَةٌ تَصَدَّقَ اللَّهُ بِهَا عَلَيْكُمْ ، فَاقْبَلُوا صَدَقَتَهُ " .
Ya'la bin Umayyah reports: I said to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): People are performing shortened prayers (qasr) while Allah Almighty has stated: "If you fear that the disbelievers may put you to trial." But now that situation no longer exists. So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I was also surprised at this until I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about it, and he said: "It is a charity which Allah Almighty has bestowed upon you, so accept His charity."
