Hadith 2733
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ قُتَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَتْنِي عَمْرَةُ بِنْتُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ أُخْبِرَتْ ، أَنَّ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيَّ ، قَالَ : " نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَرْأَةَ أَنْ تُسَافِرَ إِلا وَمَعَهَا ذُو مَحْرَمٍ " ، قَالَتْ عَمْرَةُ : فَالْتَفَتَتْ عَائِشَةُ إِلَى بَعْضِ النِّسَاءِ فَقَالَتْ : " مَا لِكُلِّكُمْ ذُو مَحْرَمٍ " ، قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ : لَمْ تَكُنْ عَائِشَةُ بِالْمُتَّهِمَةِ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيَّ فِي الرِّوَايَةِ ، لأَنَّ أَصْحَابَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كُلُّهُمْ عُدُولٌ ثِقَاتٌ ، وَإِنَّمَا أَرَادَتْ عَائِشَةُ بِقَوْلِ : مَا لِكُلِّكُمْ ذُو مَحْرَمٍ ، تُرِيدُ أَنْ لَيْسَ لِكُلِّكُمْ ذُو مَحْرَمٍ تُسَافِرُ مَعَهُ ، فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَلا تُسَافِرْ وَاحِدَةٌ مِنْكُنَّ إِلا بِذِي مَحْرَمٍ يَكُونُ مَعَهَا .
When Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) came to know of this matter, Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade a woman from traveling unless she is accompanied by her mahram (unmarriageable kin). A woman named Umrah narrates: Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) turned her attention to some women and said, "Is there not a mahram with each of you?" (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) did not accuse Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding this narration, because all the companions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) are just and trustworthy. Lady Aisha's (may Allah be pleased with her) statement, "Is there not a mahram with each of you?" means that not every one of you has a mahram with her so that she may travel with him. Fear Allah Almighty, and none of you women should travel without a mahram.
