Chapter on the Traveler - Instruction to say takbir at every elevation during travel
Hadith 2702
أَخْبَرَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْعَطَّارُ ، بِالْبَصْرَةِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْفُضَيْلُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ الْجَحْدَرِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْفُضَيْلُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : جَاءَ رَجُلٌ يُرِيدُ سَفَرًا ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَوْصِنِي ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أُوصِيكَ بِتَقْوَى اللَّهِ ، وَالتَّكْبِيرِ عَلَى كُلِّ شَرَفٍ " ، فَلَمَّا وَلَّى الرَّجُلُ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " اللَّهُمَّ ازْوِ لَهُ الأَرْضَ ، وَهَوِّنْ عَلَيْهِ السَّفَرَ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man wanted to go on a journey, so he said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Advise me." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "I advise you to adopt the fear of Allah, and to say 'Allahu Akbar' (Allah is the Greatest) when ascending every height." When that man departed, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed: "O Allah! Fold the earth for him and make his journey easy for him."
