Ali Asadi narrates: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) taught him this: Whenever the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) mounted his ride to set out on a journey, he would say Takbeer three times and then recite: “Glory is to Him Who has subjected this (ride) to us, and we could not have subdued it (by ourselves).” O Allah! We ask You for goodness and piety in this journey, and for deeds that please You. O Allah! Make this journey easy for us and fold up its distance for us. O Allah! You are the Companion in the journey and the Guardian of the family. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the hardship of travel, from witnessing any unpleasant sight (during the journey or upon return), and from any evil befalling my family, wealth, or children upon my return. The narrator states: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) would return, he would recite these same words and add these phrases: (We are) returning, repenting, worshipping, and praising our Lord.
