Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) set out on a journey and mounted his riding animal, he would say Takbeer (Allahu Akbar) three times, then recite this: "Glory is to Him Who has subjected this (ride) to us, and we could not have subdued it (by ourselves)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite two verses and then say: "O Allah, I ask You for goodness and piety during this journey, and for such deeds as please You. O Allah, make this journey easy for us and fold up the earth for us. O Allah, You are the Companion in the journey and the Guardian of the family (in our absence). O Allah, accompany us in our journey and take care of our families." When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned, he would say: "We are returning, repenting, and praising our Lord."
