Chapter on Prostration of Forgetfulness - Clarification that the Prophet (peace be upon him) completed his prayer with two prostrations after salam
Hadith 2686
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ أَبِي تَمِيمَةَ السَّخْتِيَانِيِّ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ انْصَرَفَ مِنَ اثْنَتَيْنِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ : أَقُصِرَتِ الصَّلاةُ أَمْ نَسِيتَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَصَدَقَ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ ؟ " فَقَالَ النَّاسُ : نَعَمْ ، فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَصَلَّى اثْنَتَيْنِ أُخْرَتَيْنِ ، ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ ، ثُمَّ كَبَّرَ ، فَسَجَدَ مِثْلَ سُجُودِهِ أَوْ أَطْوَلَ ، ثُمَّ رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ ، ثُمَّ كَبَّرَ ، فَسَجَدَ مِثْلَ سُجُودِهِ أَوْ أَطْوَلَ ، ثُمَّ رَفَعَ .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said salam after performing two rak‘ahs. Sayyiduna Dhul-Yadayn (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted to him: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), has the prayer been shortened? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked: Is Dhul-Yadayn speaking the truth? The people replied: Yes. So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up and performed the remaining two rak‘ahs, then he said salam. Then he said takbeer and performed a prostration like his usual prostrations or a little longer, then he raised his head, then said takbeer and performed a prostration like his usual prostrations or a little longer, then he raised his (head).
