Chapter on Prostration of Forgetfulness
Hadith 2654
حَدَّثَنَا شَبَابُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ قَحْطَبَةَ ، قَالا : حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ بَقِيَّةَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدٌ ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلابَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْمُهَلَّبِ ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَلَّمَ فِي ثَلاثِ رَكَعَاتٍ مِنَ الْعَصْرِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ الْخِرْبَاقُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَنَسِيتَ أَمْ قُصِرَتِ الصَّلاةُ ؟ فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَصَدَقَ الْخِرْبَاقُ ؟ " فَقَالُوا : نَعَمْ . فَقَامَ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَةً ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ ، ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ .
Sayyiduna Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) concluded the ‘Asr prayer after performing three rak‘ahs. Sayyiduna Khirbaq said to him: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Did you forget, or has the prayer been shortened? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Did Khirbaq speak the truth? The people replied: Yes! So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and performed one rak‘ah, then he performed two prostrations of forgetfulness, and then he concluded with salam.
