Section on Night Prayer - Clarification that if the Prophet (peace be upon him) was ill at night, he prayed his night portion during the day
Hadith 2646
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ السِّجِسْتَانِيُّ ، بِدِمَشْقَ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ خَشْرَمٍ ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ زُرَارَةَ بْنِ أَوْفَى ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ الأَنْصَارِيِّ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ: " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا عَمِلَ عَمَلا أَثْبَتَهُ ، وَكَانَ إِذَا نَامَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ، أَوْ مَرِضَ ، صَلَّى مِنَ النَّهَارِ اثْنَتَيْ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً " . قَالَتْ: قَالَتْ: " وَمَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَامَ لَيْلَةً حَتَّى الصَّبَاحِ ، وَلا صَامَ شَهْرًا مُتَتَابِعًا إِلا رَمَضَانَ " .
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Whenever the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) performed any deed, he would do it regularly. When he slept at night or became ill (and thus could not perform the night voluntary prayers), he would offer twelve rak'ahs the next day. Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I never saw the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) performing voluntary prayers for the entire night until dawn, nor did I see him fasting for the whole month in any month except the month of Ramadan.
