Section on Night Prayer - Recommendation to make up missed night prayer during the day for any reason
Hadith 2644
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو فِرَاسٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جُمْعَةَ الأَصَمُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ يَعِيشَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ زُرَارَةَ بْنَ أَوْفَى ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ: " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا عَمِلَ عَمَلا أَثْبَتَهُ " ، وَقَالَت: " كَانَ إِذَا نَامَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ أَوْ مَرِضَ صَلَّى بِالنَّهَارِ ثِنْتَيْ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً " . " وَمَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَامَ لَيْلَةً حَتَّى الصُّبْحِ ، وَلا صَامَ شَهْرًا مُتَتَابِعًا إِلا رَمَضَانَ " .
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Whenever the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) performed any deed, he would do it regularly. Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would sleep without performing the night (voluntary) prayers or was unable to perform them due to illness, he would offer twelve rak'ahs during the day. I never saw the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) performing voluntary prayers for the entire night until dawn, nor did I see him fasting for a whole month except in the month of Ramadan.
