Section on Night Prayer - Clarification that when the Prophet (peace be upon him) became old, he prayed night prayer sitting
Hadith 2632
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الأَعْلَى بْنُ حَمَّادٍ النَّرْسِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " مَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي شَيْئًا مِنْ صَلاةِ اللَّيْلِ جَالِسًا حَتَّى دَخَلَ فِي السِّنِّ ، فَجَعَلَ يَقْرَأُ ، فَإِذَا بَقِيَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ السُّورَةِ ثَلاثُونَ آيَةً أَوْ أَرْبَعُونَ آيَةً ، قَامَ فَقَرَأَ ، ثُمَّ رَكَعَ " .
Sayyida Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I never saw the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) performing the night voluntary prayers sitting down, until when he became old, he would recite (the Qur'an) sitting down. When there remained thirty or forty verses of a surah, he would stand up and recite them, then go into bowing (ruku).
