Section on Night Prayer - Clarification that one unable to stand for night prayer may pray sitting
Hadith 2630
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَرُوبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ ، قَالا : حَدَّثَنَا مَخْلَدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لا يَقْرَأُ فِي شَيْءٍ مِنْ صَلاةِ اللَّيْلِ جَالِسًا ، حَتَّى إِذَا دَخَلَ فِي السِّنِّ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ حَتَّى إِذَا بَقِيَ عَلَيْهِ ثَلاثُونَ أَوْ أَرْبَعُونَ آيَةً ، قَامَ فَقَرَأَ ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ " .
Sayyida Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) did not perform the night nawafil (voluntary prayers) sitting down, until when he became older, then he would recite (the Qur'an) while sitting, and when about thirty or forty verses remained in the recitation, he would stand up and recite them, then go into prostration.
